Make sure the ladder you choose is designed to carry your weight. Ladders must be clearly marked with maximum weight capacity.
Clean your ladder to remove mud, oil, grease, dirt, snow or other foreign matter that could cause any slippage.
Carry a single or extension ladder horizontally. If you are moving a step ladder, close it first.
Check the surface you will set your ladder on. Make sure it is firm and even and avoid loose or muddy material.
Use the proper slope, the base of the ladder should be place 1 foot away for every 4 feet of wall height.
Pay attention to power or other electrical lines and stay away from them.
Always face the ladder when climbing or descending.
Stay centered to maintain your balance and do not reach out too far.
Your shoes should not be slippery, avoid leather soles. Shoes should be clean and dry.
At the top of the ladder avoid using the top 2 rungs.
